General Tournament Info

  • There are two levels of competition. Level 1 (B and C players) Level 2 (C and D players)
  • This tournament is a 3 on 3 round robin event.
  • Each team will play 3 round robin games and guaranteed one playoff game
  • Teams receive:  Regulation Win = 2pts, Tie = 1 pts, Loss = 0 pts.
  • All games are 30 minutes in length consisting of two 13 minute run time halves with a 2 minute warm-up before each game and 1 minute break at the half.
  • Playoff round games (semi-finals and championships) that end in a tie will be decided by a 5-minute run time overtime period.  The team that scores the most goals during that time will be the winner.  If still tied, 5-minute run time periods will continue, where the team that scores the most goals during that period wins; until a winner is determined with one minute breaks in between each period.
  • Games starts, halftime and the end time will be kept by a central scorekeeper and signaled by a horn blast.
  • Teams usually play 3-4 games on Saturday and 1-2 games on Sunday.

Tournament Rules

  • 3 on 3 format with a minimum of 5 players and a maximum of 8 players
  • Each team is guaranteed 2 or more games during round robin play and one play-off game.
  • All players are required to where a helmet, and expected to wear full protective equipment.
  • The winner of the captain’s coin toss will determine which side of the pond to defend.  Teams switch at the half.
  • Teams must have 3 players at the start of each game.
  • Teams need to be ready to play at their designated start time; if a team does not have three (3) players ready to play, they will be penalized 1 goal for every 5 minutes the game starts late.
  • There will be no offside or icing and one pass must be made before a score
  • One referee will be used for each game and penalties will be enforced.  Any minor penalty called such as tripping or slashing will result in a goal for the non-offending team plus change of puck possession.
  • Fighting is strictly prohibited.  Any player that fights will be ejected from the tournament with no replacement.  Teams will continue play with 3 on 3.  The player who fought will not be allowed to play in any Creede Pond hockey tournament for life.
  • There will be no checking or body contact. Body contact in an aggressive manner will be a major penalty.
  • There will be no raising the puck above the knees; pucks that are intentionally raised above the knees will result in a change of puck possession.  NO slapshots.

  • Abuse of official or any other tournament people will no be allowed.  This will qualify as a major penalty.

  • If the puck goes out of the playing area the referee will determine who sent it out and give possession to the non-offending team at the point where the puck went out.  The defending team must provide two stick lengths to their opponent upon re-entry and play must start immediately on the referee’s command (whistle).
  • There will be a center ice face-off to start the game and the second half.  Otherwise, teams will be required to wait on their side of the ice for goals scored and penalties.  Defensive teams can engage the offensive teams once the play starts moving up ice.
